50,000 waste management jobs Says ESA
Create 50,000 waste management jobs
The (ESA) Environmental Services Association has hosted an event to develop reform of packaging waste.
Waste management companies, local authorities, Government departments and the packaging food and drink sectors attended the event, with the ESA reporting that “frank and open views” were expressed.
Removing councils of the responsibility for the collection of packaging waste is among alternatives to the UK’s current Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) This places greater emphasis on extended producer responsibility.
ESA executive director Jacob Hayler said “With the right policy drivers, we believe the industry can deliver new waste infrastructure worth £10bn, build 15 million tonnes of new processing capacity, create 50,000 waste management jobs and save Government and council taxpayers billions "
