Materials and Process Development Engineer

The Client

A privately owned global leader in the Recycling Sector.

Roles and Responsibilities 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Materials and Process Development Engineer to join our client’s well respected global recycling company. The successful candidate’s primary object will be to maximise the economic recovery of all materials handled by the facility; plastics, aggregates, metals and others. This will be achieved through driving forward the materials separation strategy in order to develop and improve current processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identifying opportunities to introduce new processes, or operate existing processes better
  • Designing, supervising, analysing and reporting on process trials, at lab, pilot and full scale
  • Developing trialled concepts into working processes

Day to Day Tasks:

  • Developing a detailed understanding of the processes we use
  • Designing and managing process trials
  • Taking samples, sorting samples and preparing samples for third party testing
  • Collecting, processing and analysing data
  • Preparing factual and interpretive reports
  • Preparing process mass balances
  • Preparing material valuations
  • Developing and maintaining a library of trial and test results
  • Maintaining an up to date awareness of processing technologies
  • Researching process equipment and techniques
  • Liaising with equipment suppliers to determine process performance and carry out trials
  • Working with the team to develop working processes
  • Developing familiarity with relevant legislation effecting what we process and how
  • Working safely at all times

Essential Experiences and Qualifications

  • An excellent understanding of materials behaviour during processing
  • Experience within a Production setting for one of the following environments; Recycling, Mining, Quarrying,
  • Manufacturing foods, Manufacturing Pharmaceuticals
  • Experience in New Process Development
  • Experience delivering innovative, technically challenging projects.
  • Educated to a Degree Level OR Equivalent in a relevant engineering or science discipline

Other Requirements

  • Full UK Driving License
  • Willingness to work across the UK with some overnight stays.
