Transport Manager

Our Client Leading Waste Management Company operating throughout the UK.

Purpose of Role The Transport Manager will be running a municipal contract upwards of 40 vehicles Designated CPC holder on the company’s Vehicle Operators Licence; ensure all vehicles are maintained in a safe and compliant condition; prepare monthly CPC report for the MD Managing an effective vehicle defecting procedure, ensuring all defects are repaired in a timely manner; scheduling regular servicing and MOT testing in accordance with legislation and company procedures Keep detailed records of vehicle servicing and repair costs and actively control these through challenging costs that appear excessive and inspecting proposed work at the service providers premises Recruit, train and manage drivers, ensuring we have adequate driver resource to achieve our operational objectives; monitor driver performance and deal effectively with any underperformance, implementing disciplinary procedures as appropriate Manage and monitor driver tachographs to ensure that our operation is compliant with Drivers Hours legislation and the Working Time Directive Work with the transport office team and sales as required to assist in the optimisation of collection rounds and vehicle utilisation to maximise efficiency and reduce operating costs Managing an effective container inspection regime in line with the company procedure; ensuring the container defecting procedure is being followed and that all defects are repaired in a timely manner; ensuring unsafe containers are quarantined and systems are in place to repair or remove from the business Ensure H&S procedures and safe systems of work are being followed; to actively encourage a H&S culture within the operations including the reporting of near misses and contributing to H&S meetings Ensure each collection activity is adequately risk assessed as per the company procedures and that appropriate controls and safe working procedures are in place for any risks identified and that these are communicated to drivers; ensure staff are properly equipped and trained to carry out tasks allocated to them Investigate all personal accidents, road traffic accidents and other significant driver related incidents and near misses to identify route causes; take corrective actions to prevent further occurrence
