The Client

A well respected, family owned Waste Management and Recycling Services Supplier.

 

Purpose and Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Depot Manager to join our clients Depot based in the Crawley area. A leading and well respected Waste Management company are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to come on board and continue to lead and grow the Depot. As Depot Manager you will be primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the depots waste collection services. This is a hands on role managing a small team of up to around 20 Drivers.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

  • Ensuring that all Company Health & Safety and Employment policies and procedures are complied with in a fair and consistent manner at all times.
  • Recruitment, Training, Monitor Staff Performance, Disciplinary issues and New Employee Inductions
  • Ensuring that regular meetings / toolbox talks take place with employees to encourage feedback and to share new ideas in a consistent manner.
  • Ensuring that all mobile workers’ hours are managed and recorded strictly within the legal regulations in force.
  • Ensuring all accidents and injuries are reported promptly and correctly and that any follow-up actions are implemented in a timely way.
  • Identifying any training needs for you and your department in line with the Training and Development Policy and in liaison with either Health & Safety, HR (development training) or Transport Trainers (driver training)
  • In conjunction with the Fleet or Workshop Manager, or vehicle hire companies, ensuring that all vehicles are checked and maintained in a fit and roadworthy condition at all times in accordance with the Company’s Goods Vehicles Operator Licences.
  • Ensuring the Depot’s budget is managed efficiently and reported on monthly and at any interval as requested by either the Regional Operations Manager or General Manager - Logistics.
  • Carrying out any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as requested by either the Regional Operations Manager or General Manager - Logistics that are within the skills and knowledge of the jobholder.

Person Specification

You’ll also have:

  • Be highly motivated and driven
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Computer and It Literate with an excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel & outlook
  • Commercial Awareness
  • A sound working knowledge of current and upcoming legislation that may affect business.
  • Experience in Tool Box Talks, managing employee performance and recruitment of new staff

Required experience:

  • Waste Management and Recycling Experience: 5 years
  • Depot/Operations Management Experience: 3 years

Required licence or certification:

  • A full, clean UK Driving Licence
  • CPC
  • LGV Class 2 entitlement - Advantageous
