A well respected, family owned Waste, RMC and Aggregate Services Supplier operating across East Anglia and London.

Purpose and Responsibilities

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Health Safety and Environment Manager to join a dynamic and rapidly expanding company. The Successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing and enforcing all safety measures in the Quarry and offices. The HSE Manager will detect and eradicate any health and safety hazards accordingly by way of; Inspecting work areas & products, and employee work habits, ensure that everything is in compliance with policies and environmental safety guidelines, and makes changes to improve the safety of the workplace when necessary.

  • Review and develop the Company Health, Safety and Environment Policy Statements, Recycling & Waste Procedures, Risk Assessments strategies, health and safety policies, procedures and guidance on an annual basis.
  • Ensure that Policy Statements/Fire Plans and Fire Risk Assessments are produced and quality assured.
  • Consult with Managers and give appropriate advice on formulating best-practice policies and procedures.
  • Keeping staff and Managers abreast of changes in HS&E Legislation and Codes of Practice as well as identifying any training for staff in relation to Health and Safety policies, practice and procedures as well as proposing, implementing and monitoring measures necessary to comply with H,S&E Legislation and Codes of Practice
  • Carry out or arrange workplace safety audits and ensure that any remedial recommendations are implemented.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are being upheld throughout the organisation e.g. COSHH,RIDDOR, Display Screen Equipment, Risk Assessments etc.
  • Maintain accident statistics, analyse trends and propose and take remedial action where necessary
  • Investigate or arrange for all accidents and near-misses be investigated, prepare report of findings, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and implement approved course of action.
  • Assist and support Departments in the preparation of risk assessments. Monitor the availability and appropriateness of risk assessments and, where necessary, safe working practices.
  • Maintain a register of First Aiders and ensure the adequate provision of first-aid and welfare facilities.
  • Liaise as necessary with other organizations and relevant authorities, and provide assistance and cooperation concerning audits and remedial actions.
  • Meet and co-operate with visiting health, safety and environmental officers as required as well as representing the Company with local and national health, safety and environment bodies.
  • Manage and maintain the company COSHH database, ensuring COSHH statements are available on all hazardous materials and that effective Risk Assessments are in place to manage the handling and use of such substances, all assessments to be reviewed annually.
  • Promote and coordinate the integration of environmental management and sustainability issues into policies, rules, products, services and operations

Person Specification

You’ll also have:

  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Demonstrable experience within a similar role and environment (waste management/construction)
  • Internal auditing experience
  • Good working of environmental management for the Waste, Recycling and Quarrying/aggregates Sector
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO standards
  • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate Health and Safety legislation/training, orally and in writing, to a wide and varied audience
  • IT Literate with the ability to use a range of job specific packages, including Microsoft Office suite

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Health & Safety Management: 5 years
  • Waste Management, Recycling, Aggregates, Quarrying Experience: 2 years
  • NEBOSH, IOSH- Advantageous
