Purpose and Responsibilities

Ace Recruitment currently has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a Leading Waste Management and Recycling company. As Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible to maximise output of the facility by managing the day to day maintenance of all plant and equipment. Ensure safe, efficient and reliable plant operation including maintaining and compliance of statutory inspections. Management and coordination of equipment maintenance – planned, breakdowns and overhauls within strict budgets, in line with company policy and procedures. Manage and control maintenance subcontractors in line with company policy and procedure.

 Key Responsibilities as Maintenance Engineer

  • Prevent plant breakdowns by ensuring the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) is carried out, ensuring that the risk of downtime is kept to a minimum to ultimately maximise profit and revenue.
  • Carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on a variety of plant equipment including conveyors, baling equipment, Low Voltage equipment, motors, gearbox, mechanical drives, material handling equipment, plant auxiliaries, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical and optical, magnetic and Eddy current separation technology etc.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out while staying within the maintenance budget.
  • Control on-site maintenance subcontractors, including all safety procedures and work schedules.
  • Be available to be called in during emergency situations and plant breakdowns when necessary and participate in the ‘standby’ rota as applicable.

Person Specification

You’ll also have:

  • Understanding of maintenance strategy and knowledge of planned preventative maintenance procedures and be fully conversant with material handling equipment, preferably within the recycling environment
  • Application of Electrical and Mechanical Safety Systems and Standards
  • Application of Health and Safety Legislation including PUWER, Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Experienced with conveyors, baling equipment, Low Voltage equipment, motors, material handling equipment, plant auxiliaries, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical and optical separation, magnetic and Eddy current separation technology.
  • IT skills – understanding of systems, databases and office packages (Google Doc and Sheet) and the ability to learn bespoke software.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • City and Guilds, Advanced craft in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Maintenance Engineering Experience: 5 Years Minimum
  • Waste Management, Recycling, Heavy Industry Experience: 3 years Minimum
