The Client

A leading regional Waste Management and Recycling company operating across the South East.

Purpose and Responsibilities 

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and passionate Transport/Fleet Supervisor to join an ethical, fast growing and well respected recycling company based in Rainham. With significant investment being made at our client’s operations base in 2019, this is a great opportunity to join their exceptional team.

As Shift Manager you will support the Transport Manager in line managing all specialist truck and cage drivers and ensure that the staff you manage are not only fulfilling their duties but exceeding them. Your focus will be on managing drivers and vehicles, ensuring compliance with defect reporting and walk around’s as well as dealing with issue faced by our drivers and vehicles. You will work a 45-hour week, on a rotating early and lates shift; 4AM start and 2PM start (with one-hour unpaid break). Flexibility will be required to cover the occasional night and weekend shift.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Line management of your shift, being responsible for driver conduct and performance.
  • Ensure collections and deliveries are completed, managing any problems on the road as they occur.
  • Dealing with real time customer issues and queries from our Helpdesk Team.
  • Ensuring driver compliance with transport law; the completion of walk around checks, analysing tachograph information, repairing minor defects and promptly reporting and managing those that cannot be repaired on site.

Required experience:

  • Line management experience in multi-drop operations
  • Strong people management skills, leading by example, engaging with colleagues at all levels
  • Proven experience dealing with real time practical problems
  • Ability to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure
  • Confidence to be assertive with drivers when required.

Required licence or certification:

  • C Class Drivers License with full drivers CPC and Digital Tacho Card – Essential
  • CPC National Certificate holder (Sponsorship available)
