The Client

A leading Waste Management and Recycling Company.

Purpose and Responsibilities

Our client is looking for an experienced Workshop Fitter to join their team based in Daventry. As Workshop Fitter you will be responsible for maintaining the mixed fleet of rigid and articulated vehicles in line with DVSA and FTA requirements. As well as maintenance of the vehicles you will also be responsible for inspections and MOTS on the varied fleet of vehicles.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Inspection, service and repair of all fleet items to a professional standard as per workshop procedures and VOSA tester’s manuals.
  • Preparation of vehicles for annual tests.
  • Road test vehicles and certify roadworthiness.
  • Completion of written and electronically inputted timesheets, job cards and other documentation as required within procedural deadlines to the standards required by VOSA.
  • Ensuring work is carried out efficiently and speedily to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise workshop income.
  • Attend breakdowns within normal working hours and outside normal hours call outs when on rota.
  • To be available for call outs as part of the workshop call out roster.
  • Ensure good relations with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • To provide sickness and holiday cover as required.

Person Specification

You’ll also have:

  • Good understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrics, with strong practical and fitting skills on mechanical and technical equipment.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of current relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Competent to make cost-effective and safe repairs.
  • Good interpersonal skills: promoting a positive and professional attitude to all customers.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use own initiative and demonstrate willingness and flexibility to undertake new tasks where necessary.
  • Good team worker, with ability to work unsupervised when required.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Required experience:

  • HGV Fitter/HGV Mechanic Experience: 3 years
  • Experience working within the Waste/Recycling Sector – Advantageous.

Required licence or certification:

  • A full, clean UK Driving Licence – essential
  • NVQ Level 3 in HGV Mechanics/Equivalent Qualification
  • HGV Class 2 License with Driver CPC (Advantageous)
